'Pink' Movie review : Shoojit hit the bull's eye.

Cast : Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang, Amitabh Bachchan, Angad Bedi, Raashul Tandon, Vijay Varma, Tushar Pandey, Piyush Mishra, Dhritimaan Chatterjee, Vinod Nagpal, Dibang.

Directed by : Anirudha Roy Chowdhary.

It won't be wrong to say that today we are all surrounded by the concept of "Feminism" or that of empowerment of women but I was just wondering how many of us really know what it is. If you are a regular media consumer, it's quite possible that you're aware of all mumbo jumbo about a modern girl wearing denims , friendly speaking to guys and drinking in someone's company in this INDIAN society is. It is not the first art film that has spoken about this, but certainly I can say it has hit the right string, the best.
The plot isn't really complicated or new, for that matter. Three young independent women living in a posh area in Delhi casually go for a rock concert where they befriends with other three guys whom with they go for a dinner. Asusual , the rich and POLITICALLY strong guy tries to molest Minal (Tapsee), who in return slams a beer bottle into his head causing him severe head injury. Scared, these women just run away from the resort. The beauty of the plot is that none of this is visually presented on screen, and just narrated by the girls in the court scene which follows. This actually makes you think ,"Are these guys innocent? Are they right about the trio being Raa*d?"

Court sequences, oh boy,as Indian audience, we just love court sequences in our films. Let it be Sunny Deol yelling "Tareekh pe Taarekh", Govinda burning his hands to prove his point or Akshay in his Navy uniform. This flick, too, utilized court in the best way possible. Amitabh Sir, as a lawyer, was just marvellous along with Tapsee,Kirti and Andrea who acted quite realistically. The quirky dialogues and questions by lawyers or the rulebook by Amitabh about "How women in India can be safe" will make you think about your own line of thought.[The best one being the closing of case by Amitabh, I won't spoil it ;)] What was different in this court scene than others is that the opposition was very strong, and he was smart enough to manipulate the evidences for his benifit. At somepoint it made me think that is the movie about "FemiNAZism"? Will the climax be about the girls being found guilty?

Direction by Anirudha was the best in class. A lot of new-age directors try something new for their shots, but this guy had got his basics right. He showed same old ghise-pite scenes in an all new and intresting way.For an instance, Bedi threatening the landlord or Andrea in the cafe. And those little ironical hints he left throughout the movie like naming girls Minal(Hindu) , Falak ali (Muslim) and Andrea(Possibly Christian).[Hi-Fi if you got it.] and about hypocrisy of "Men drinking".Cinematography again was just elegant. Jerkiness in tensed scenes ,steadiness in sad scenes and all those were just mastered and it really gave you the feel it intended to.
Overall, I'd say it's one of the best art film I've seen so far and the only women-empowering movie which can make one ashamed of his orthodox thinking about a modern girl.
I rate it 4.5/5.

Houseull 3's Movie Review : Khiladi plays ingeniously , once again.

Genre : Comedy , Romance.
Cast    :  Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh,                  Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline                        Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Lisa                        Haydon , Boman Irani , Jackie Shrof
Directors : Sajid-Farhad.

Doesn't it feel disgusting when in a movie theater people make noises while you're watching a movie ? Well, then HF3 isn't for you for I was irked by the consitent gags of audiences in the hall.

Housefull's 3 is a story of the father, Batook patel , of three girls Ganga , Jamuna and Saraswati , who doesn't wish his daughters to get married since he believes marriages are never sucessful in his family. But little to his knowledge , three girls are madly in love with Sandy(Akshay Kumar) , whose another flip Sundy takesover him whenever he hears the word "Indian" ; Bunty (Abhishek) who is an unsucessful rapper and Teddy (Ritesh) an aspiring car lover and racer who is lacking funds to fulfill his dreams. And these boys are in love with girls only for their wealth. The whole thing gets muddled when a Mumbai Don (Urja Nagre) enters the plot.

HF3 , asusual , is a leave-your-brains-at-home kind of film. The whole show is full of childish jokes and some old whatsapp jokes which are often forwaded to you by every other uncle out there. But these silly jokes will surely bust a gut.The female-trio does try to crack you up by their broken Hindi dialogues , but after a while you just can't laugh as it becomes very predictable.

Akkie steals the show as Sundy and it seems as if he has done Ph.D in playing comic roles. His dialogue delivery and comic timing are venerable. Ritiesh , having enough experience in comedy , makes you laugh every now and then with his slip of dong , sorry I meant tongue and "Kutraaayyyaaa".Watching Abhishek trying to make you laugh will make you laugh automatically; But anyway he has tried well , being new to the genre.

Nadiawala Grandson's Entertainment is a rich production house. Affluent enough to give audience a visual treat with respect to amazing London's topography. Direction was fair enough too. Quirky songs like Pyaar ki maa ki and Taang uthake makes you tap your leg.
Having said that , it is a full-fledged family entertainment meant to be enjoyed this weekend.
Over-all Rating:.

Movie review- Phobia

Phobia.
-By Pawan Kripalani

You are all alone in a room. A dark, noiseless, spooky room. You suddenly start feeling cold, but that doesn’t bother you because you are occupied by your thoughts. The feeling of numbness engulfs you. You are about to fall deeper into that abyss when suddenly something taps on your shoulder. You answer to that tap by looking beside you. You suddenly spring back to life realizing that it is your sister tapping on your shoulder, urging you to get up and exit the theatre, because even the end credit scroll of the movie Phobia has ended.

Oh wait. That was about me and I wasn’t intending to explain what the word ‘phobia’ is all about. The movie will do that job better.

Phobia, literally means ‘an irrational fear of something.’ Depending on the environment and surroundings and with the increasing population, different kinds phobia have developed overtime. Agoraphobia (fear of open public spaces) is the one which Mehek (Radhika Apte) deals with in the film.
In the past as well, Bollywood has released movies dealing with medically generated conditions. While some of them like Paa (Progeria), Tamasha (Depression), Taare Zameen Par (Autism) went well with the audience, the others like Margarita with a straw (Cerebral Palsy) failed miserably at the box office. Although Phobia belongs to this sphere of bollywood dealing with medical conditions, but the treatment given to it is what sets it apart from the rest of them.
The entire film is shot in one single house. The movie has clearly steered away from using any bombarding horror music, clowns in hideous make-ups, to portray the existence of non-existent horror. The movie has kept the concept of agoraphobia original, and it has revolved around the life and experiences of the person (i.e Mehek) who suffers from the same. Still, the movie gives you the requisites of any horror film like ‘the chills’, the occasional gasps and goosebumps (a lot of them). Radhika Apte has put in a lot in terms of acting for this film and for that she definitely deserves an ovation. Another person worthy of applause is the DOP (Jayakrishna Gummadi) who by his cinematography has made sure that the viewers altogether don’t develop claustrophobia (fear of closed spaces) by viewing the same room for 2 hours!
The movie is a must watch for anyone who is in for a psychological thriller. Definitely not for the ones who are expecting an ensemble cast of ghosts wrapped in white cloths and skeletons doing all sorts of things from screaming to doing Bharatnatyam.

Rating- 4.5 star.

Veerappan Movie Review : Movie is more agonizing than an AK47.

Genre : Biopic , Thriller.
Cast : Sandeep Bharadwaj , Usha Jadhav , Sachiin Joshi , Lisa Ray
Direction and Screenplay : Ram Gopal Varma.
"Great Villains make great movies" - Staton Rabin. Contritely, this was not in the case of  Veerappan.

Veerappan (Sandeep) is a story of one of the India's most dangerous bandit who used to kill elephants for smuggling their tusks and policemen to frighten. Trained by forest guards themselves to kill an elephant, in his teenage , he killed a forest ranger for the first time when he prohibited Veerappan to kill an elephant due to strict forest laws , introduced then. Henceforth starts the journey of him becoming an abominable devil. Despite of being a benighted goon , Koose Muniswamy Veerappan was wise enough to take advantage of jurisdiction issue of Tamilnadu and Karnataka for escaping from either of police forces.
The film starts with some STF Jawans planning to kill or capture Veerappan under a mission called "Cocoon" led by Kannan(Sachiin) ; Which consists of many strategies to lure Veerappan out of his den(forest) varying from befriending the captured wife of Veerappan , Muthulakshmy (Usha) with Shreya (Lisa) and interrogating her about his whereabouts to bluffing an arrangement of meeting with LTT terrorist Prabhakar , who was Veerappan's role model. Being a docu-thriller movie , we know it's end of being Veerappan killed in October , 2004. But the fact that how plans were bumped off will make your eyes glued to screen.

Even though Sandeep and Usha did a fair redemption of their acting skills , Sachiin and Lisa failed miserably in doing so. Sachiin's dialogue delivery can literally anesthetize the viewer.

VFX 😭😭 Not a single blast or gunshot seemed real ! Even the blood stains were result of bad use of computer generated graphics. Gunshots even in Sholay were far better than this.

Background Music keep pounding ears like anything.
Direction and Screenplay were not the best contrivances of RGV. Obviously , I expected a lot more than this from the director of super hits like Sarkaar , Sarkaar Raj and Phoonk.

Dialogues like "Rakhshas ko maarne ke liye usse bada Rakshas banna padta hai" keep giving you chills every now and then eventhough their delivery was pretty cold.

Anyway it was quite of spunky move by RGV to make such a biopic , well-baked.
It surely is a one-time watch.

Sarabjit Movie Review : There's not enough glue on the seat.

Genre : Biopic , Drama.
Cast : Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachhan, Richa Chaddha, Darshan Kumaar.
Directed by Omung Kumar.

How does it feel over dramatising an emotional biopic ? Well , you will get the answer while watching the movie.

Sarabjit is a story of a farmer , who , boozed up , crossed the Indo-Pak border(Punjab) and getting caught by Pakistan patrol leads him to step into a no-man's-land. Dalbir Kaur (Aishwarya) perserverantly tries to prove that her veera , Sarabjit (Randeep) , is innocent and framed as Ranjit Singh (accused of being a R.A.W agent and spying in Pakistan.) Dalbir's and Awwais Sheikh's (played as Sarabjit's lawyer by Darshan) efforts pay off and after more than two decades there's news of Sarabjit's release. But the doleful end is the noxious  attack by fellow prisoners leaving protagonist dead in Jinnah Hospital , Lahore.

Whole movie moves very cold and slow making viewer look at clock ten times an hour , however melodious songs may entertain you amidst.
First half of the movie does ham it up well by showing Sarabjit's pitiful condition in Lot Lakhpat jail , Lahore ; whereas latter one is a bit disappointing.

Although Aishwarya was abortive in her dialogue-delivery , Randeep was immaculate in his acting and get-up.Richa Chadda, eventhough under-utilised , did a marvelous job. Darshan was equitable to the little given screenspace.

Film was bollywoodised by some dialogues like , "Jao kehdo apne Taliban se jagah aur waqt batade , yeh sikhni waha pahoch jaayegi" or the one in trailer which almost gives you feel of Gadar. Punjabis were portrayed stereotypically as in every other Bollywood movie out there.(Gaddhi-Shaddhi , Daaru-Shaaru and what not). The Hindi-mixed-punjabi will make viewer feel gawky , it would have been a lot better if it was in Hindi with Punjabi accent to give it a relation aspect.
Direction and screenplay were not up to the par of Omung Kumar.

In end of the line , Sarabjit could be a lot more thrilling as shown in trailer than actually it was.
